Kweku Brimah is 24 years old but already has five years’ experience working on a cocoa farm. Kweku joined his parents to cultivate the family cocoa farm after he completed Junior High School. Occasionally, Kweku also joins other friends to prune and weed other farms for a fee.
The newly acquired knowledge from the MASO Programme has positioned Kweku to expand his weeding and pruning services to other farms in his community Ampenkro, a cocoa-growing community in the Asunafo North District of the Brong Ahafo region.
Kweku joined the MASO CocoAcademy, to professionalise his cocoa farming skills. He is confident the lessons received will enable him to support his parents and other cocoa farmer better on their cocoa farm.
“The skills and knowledge impacted through the MASO Programme have been useful. I am becoming a better farmer as I put all the best practices I now know to good use. Very soon, this will reflect in the yields of my parent’s farms. The entire community will also benefit as I am supporting other farmers.”
Like the over two thousand Ghanaian youth from cocoa growing communities who joined the MASO Programme in 2016, he received both theoretical and practical lessons in cocoa farming and its related businesses.
